Frequently Asked Questions

What do these restaurant receipt examples show?

Each example is a fully formatted restaurant receipt generated by our free tool. They show the restaurant name and address, server name, table number, guest count, itemized food and beverage lines with modifiers, subtotal, sales tax, a tip suggestion line (or auto-gratuity for larger parties), and total. Delivery receipts add delivery fee, service fee, and driver tip line. All examples replicate what a point-of-sale system prints.

Can I create my own receipt like these examples?

Yes. Every example on this page was created using our free Restaurant Receipt Generator. Click 'Create Your Own' on any example to go directly to the generator with a similar template pre-loaded.

When does a restaurant add automatic gratuity?

Most US restaurants automatically add an 18–20% gratuity for parties of 6 or more. This appears on the receipt as 'Auto-Gratuity' or 'Service Charge' and is legally a mandatory charge, not a tip; it must be reported as wages by the employer. For smaller parties, the receipt shows a suggested tip in three percentage lines (18%, 20%, 22%) and a blank tip line for the customer to write in their amount. Our generator supports both formats.

What categories of restaurant receipts do you have examples for?

We currently have examples across four categories: Casual Dining (family restaurant and sports bar), Fine Dining (steakhouse and sushi omakase), Breakfast (diner and weekend brunch), and Delivery & Takeout (pizza delivery and Thai takeout).

Do these example receipts include the CheckoutReceipt watermark?

Yes. All examples shown here were generated using the free tier, which includes a subtle watermark. Premium users can generate receipts without the watermark. See our pricing page for details.

Will you add more restaurant receipt examples?

Yes. We plan to add examples including fast food receipts, food truck receipts, catering invoices, and multi-course tasting menu receipts as additional examples across all four dining categories.
