Bottle service, minimums, and mandatory gratuity
Nightclub receipts are structured around bottle service packages with table minimums. A VIP table carries a spending commitment, typically $1,000 to $5,000, and the receipt documents whether that minimum was met or whether a MINIMUM CHARGE line was added to close the gap. Each bottle appears as its own line, mixers are a separate bundle, and the VIP section is listed as an included item at $0.00 once the minimum is satisfied.

Mandatory service charges are taxable as a service fee in some states and tax-exempt in others. Some local governments also tax cover charges. In Maryland, a charge for admission to a place is an admissions and amusement charge that counties and municipalities may tax (Md. Code, Tax-General 4-101 and 4-102).
