Why Convenience Store Receipts Have More Tax Lines
A convenience store receipt is deceptively complex. A basket of five items (a candy bar, a soda, a scratch ticket, and a pack of cigarettes) can produce four different tax treatments. General merchandise pays sales tax. Tobacco pays sales tax plus a state excise tax calculated per pack. Alcohol pays sales tax plus its own excise tax. Lottery tickets are usually non-taxable but must still appear as line items.
The key differentiator is excise tax disclosure. State law in most jurisdictions requires excise taxes to be shown separately from the general sales tax so the customer can see the full tax burden on regulated products. For a fuel-only receipt use the Gas Station template instead. This convenience-store template handles inside-store purchases. If a customer bought fuel plus inside items, generate two receipts or add a PUMP # line.
What payment methods are typical on convenience store receipts?

Can I add a money order or bill-pay line?
