What do these rent receipt examples show?
Each example is a fully formatted rent receipt generated by our free tool. They show the receipt number, landlord name and address, tenant name, property address, rental period (e.g. May 1–31), amount paid, payment method (check, cash, money order, Zelle, ACH), balance remaining (if any), and a landlord signature line: the standard cash-receipt format used between landlords and tenants, distinct from POS receipts.
Can I create my own receipt like these examples?
Yes. Every example on this page was created using our free Rent Receipt Generator. Click 'Create Your Own' on any example to go directly to the generator with a similar template pre-loaded.
Is a rent receipt legally required?
Many states require landlords to provide a written receipt for any rent payment made in cash or by money order. Even where not required, a receipt protects both parties: it proves the tenant paid and prevents disputes about missed payments. A rent receipt should show the amount paid, the period it covers, the date received, and be signed or initialed by the landlord or property manager. Our generator creates receipts that satisfy the legal requirements of all 50 states.
What categories of rent receipts do you have examples for?
We currently have examples across four categories: Monthly Rent (standard apartment and house rent receipts), Late Fees (late fee added to overdue rent and partial payment receipts), Deposits (security deposit and pet deposit receipts issued at lease signing), and Utilities Included (receipts for rent with utility allocation and prorated first-month rent).
Do these example receipts include the CheckoutReceipt watermark?
Yes. All examples shown here were generated using the free tier, which includes a subtle watermark. Premium users can generate receipts without the watermark. See our pricing page for details.
Will you add more rent receipt examples?
Yes. We plan to add examples including commercial lease receipts, co-signer payment receipts, roommate contribution receipts, and lease renewal receipts as additional examples across all four categories.
